Hydrostatic Protection

The pool that stays put in the wet

The patented Compass HydroPro valve prevents pool "pop-out" during hydrostatic events — periods of very high groundwater pressure. Traditional fibreglass shells can literally lift out of the ground during heavy wet-season events; a Compass shell with HydroPro doesn't.

How it works

The technical detail — in plain English

HydroPro is a passive one-way valve built into the pool shell during manufacture. When groundwater pressure below the shell reaches a threshold, the valve opens to equalise the pressure — groundwater is briefly allowed into the pool cavity, the hydraulic lift force disappears, and the shell stays put. When the ground drains and pressure normalises, the valve closes automatically. No moving parts to service, no electronics, no owner action required. In Central Queensland, this matters because every ten years or so Rockhampton or one of the coastal suburbs gets an extended wet-season event where the water table stays elevated for weeks. Combined with a partially empty pool (for cleaning or servicing), that's exactly the scenario where a traditional shell can pop. HydroPro means it doesn't happen — the shell stays put even if the pool is empty during a high-groundwater event.

Why HydroPro matters in the CQ wet season

Every ten or fifteen years, Central Queensland gets a big wet-season event where groundwater stays elevated for weeks. Rockhampton, Yeppoon, and much of the coastal strip have experienced this — extended saturation, high water table, and if you happen to have an empty pool for cleaning or servicing at the wrong time, you have a hydrostatic pop-out risk.

HydroPro solves it passively. There’s a one-way valve built into the shell that opens when groundwater pressure below the pool exceeds a threshold — the pressure equalises, the shell stays put, and once the ground drains the valve closes again. No pump, no power, no owner action required.

Standard on every Compass shell — not an upgrade. It’s one of the reasons we’ve stayed with Compass as our exclusive supplier: HydroPro is the technical answer to a CQ climate risk that’s real but easy to overlook when you’re looking at brochures.

Hydrostatic Protection

What Hydrostatic Protection Means for Your Pool

The practical benefits — what changes for you as the owner across the life of your Compass pool.

⬆️

Prevents Pop-Out

The single failure mode HydroPro addresses — shell hydraulic lift during a high-groundwater event. Real risk for any fibreglass pool without the valve.

📦

Standard, Not an Upgrade

HydroPro is fitted to every Compass shell as standard — no opt-in, no premium. If you have a Compass pool, you have HydroPro.

🚫

Passive System

No pump, no motor, no electronics, no owner action. The valve opens and closes automatically based on pressure differential — nothing to service, nothing to fail.

☔

CQ Wet-Season Ready

Central Queensland groundwater can rise dramatically in a heavy wet-season event. HydroPro handles it — an entire wet season with an empty pool is a non-issue.

📜

Life-of-Pool Warranty

Compass warrants HydroPro for the life of the pool. If it ever failed to protect the shell during a hydrostatic event, that's on Compass, not you.

🔧

Zero Maintenance

The valve is self-cleaning and rated for the life of the shell. No annual service, no owner attention required. Genuine "install and forget" protection.

How HydroPro compares

Most Australian fibreglass manufacturers rely on active drainage pit + pump systems on-site — these need power, need maintenance, and can fail exactly when you need them (during a power outage in a wet-season event, for example). HydroPro is passive, integrated into the shell itself, and never needs owner attention. It's the "you don't think about it until you need it" feature that becomes essential once every ten or fifteen years in the CQ climate.

Hydrostatic Protection Questions — Answered

What CQ pool buyers most commonly ask us about HydroPro.

Do I need HydroPro in Central Queensland?

Yes. CQ wet seasons occasionally produce extended high-groundwater events — Rockhampton, Yeppoon, and the coastal strip all experience this. HydroPro is the reason a Compass pool stays put during those events; every Compass shell has it as standard.

What happens if my pool is empty in a wet event?

HydroPro is designed exactly for this scenario. An empty pool with rising groundwater below is the worst-case pop-out risk — the valve opens, equalises the pressure, the shell stays put.

Do I need to do anything to maintain HydroPro?

No. It's a passive system with no moving parts. No annual service, no owner action, nothing to think about.

What does HydroPro cost?

It's standard on every Compass shell — no separate cost, no upgrade line item. If you're buying a Compass pool, HydroPro is included in the shell price.

What about competitor fibreglass pools?

Most competing fibreglass pools handle hydrostatic protection with a drainage-pit-and-pump system on the outside of the shell. That works, but relies on active equipment (power, pump maintenance) — HydroPro is passive and integrated. It's the technical reason we've stayed with Compass as our exclusive supplier.

Is HydroPro also on Maxi Rib above-ground pools?

Yes — every Compass shell has HydroPro standard, including Maxi Rib configurations. The passive valve doesn't care whether the shell is in the ground or above it.

How often does HydroPro actually activate?

In dry weather, rarely. In CQ wet-season conditions or after cyclonic rainfall it can activate multiple times in a week. That's exactly what it's designed for — you never see it working, but it prevents the shell from being lifted by rising groundwater.

Do I need HydroPro if I don't have a high water table?

Depends on your site. HydroPro is standard on every Compass shell (it's built into the ceramic composite construction) rather than an add-on, so you get the protection whether your site needs it or not. Sites with known high water tables benefit most.
