The Contemporary is Compass's modern rectangular pool with a unique design twist — clean straight lines, but deepest in the CENTRE with shallow ends at both sides. That's deliberate: makes it ideal for volleyball, basketball, and other pool games where you want the same standing depth at each end. It's the pool for families who play in the pool as much as they swim.
The Contemporary now comes in just two configurations from Compass: the standard Contemporary 9.5 (9.52m × 4.28m) and a Custom Length build up to 20m long — same 4.28m width, same depth profile, whatever length suits your block and design brief. The Custom is popular on lifestyle acreage where the design calls for a specific size or dimension, and increasingly for high-end architectural builds where the pool sits inside a formal composition.

The Contemporary in Central Queensland
The Contemporary is the shape architects specify. We install it most often on newer architectural homes in Lammermoor, Zilzie, and the higher-end Yeppoon coastal releases — properties where the pool is a formal landscape element rather than just a place to swim.
Standard 9.5m configuration is common, but the Contemporary is also the Compass shape most often ordered as a custom length. We’ve installed Contemporary shells up to 12m for larger CQ acreage homes where the design brief called for a specific proportion.
Pairs particularly well with Sunpod bubblers, waterwalls, and negative-edge treatments. Some of the most visually striking pools we’ve installed across the region have been Contemporary shells with feature elements — genuinely resort-style results in a suburban backyard.

What sizes does the Contemporary come in?
Two configurations from Compass: the standard Contemporary 9.5 (9.52m × 4.28m, 1.28–1.71m deep) and a Custom Length build (up to 20m × 4.28m, 1.28–1.65m deep).
Why is the Contemporary deep in the middle?
By design — the Contemporary is set up for pool volleyball, basketball, and similar standing-depth pool games where you want the same depth at both ends. It's the pool for families who play in the pool as much as they swim.
How long can the Custom Contemporary be?
Up to 20 metres. That's the longest Compass custom pool outside of the Fastlane (which goes to 30m). Width stays at 4.28m; you choose the length that suits your block and design brief.
Is the Contemporary a good family pool?
Yes — particularly for families with older kids who play pool games. For families with young toddlers, the X-Trainer or Sanctuary (with their gentler shallow ends) are usually a better fit.
Can it be built above ground?
Yes — Maxi Rib is available for the Contemporary. Above-ground and partial-above-ground installs are common on sloping architectural sites. See Maxi Rib.
Can I add a spa?
Yes. Common combo layouts put the spa flush at one end of the pool — the rectangular geometry makes this cleaner than with curved pool shapes.
Does the Contemporary suit dark Bi-Luminite colours?
Beautifully. The Contemporary's clean geometric lines suit the darker end of the Bi-Luminite range particularly well — Evolution, Sapphire, and Vercoe all read as moody, mirror-like water against modern architectural homes with dark landscaping.
Can the Custom Contemporary go longer than 20m?
20m is the standard custom limit. Anything longer becomes a bespoke Compass engineering project — technically possible but priced separately and with a longer lead time. For serious lap swimming beyond 12m the Fastlane is usually the better answer.
